Random Sexiness #1

November 27, 2008 at 6:02 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , )

I was having a conversation one day explaining what some of my favorite blogs and websites were.  This lead me to start thinking about my internet usage in general.  I realized now that I now go to less websites than I did when I started using the web 13 years ago and am making a conscience effort to change that.  There’s just too much cool stuff out there.

For instance, while wandering though YouTube, I clicked from Sandra Bernhard to voguing to wacking to the video below.  I think these two dancers are hot not just because of their dance moves but they have real bodies.  This led me to start a recurring blog catagory called “Random Sexiness”.  This is the inaugarial post.  Hope you like.  Don’t be scared if what I constitute as “sexy” tends to be a bit unconventional.

My Cover Song Obsession

Mixwit

Any one who knows me knows that I love music.  It’s not just one kind either, I have about 200GB of music in almost every genre known to the mediocre American palette.

A subset of this love is the cover song.  Covering songs, especially popular ones, is an art unto itself.  It is more than mere imitation.  Good covers are a contemporary filter through which timeless, universal human truths are pushed through to modern relevance.

The mixtape above contains some covers of popular songs with a slightly different take.  While there are more I wish to add, the service is dependent on servers with a very narrow selection of songs.  I posted them for your enjoyment.  Please feel free to leave comments with other suggestions.

Understanding the Actual Policy – Obama’s Tax “Increase”

November 1, 2008 at 4:15 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , )

All over the blogosphrere right wing McCain supporters are shouting, “Socialist!” because of one phrase the desperate McCain campaign pounced on.  “Redisbute the wealth” may not have been my choice of words but I did something that it seems 90% of the accusers didn’t, I went to the Obama site and actually read his tax proposal.  You can too right here.

I would also bet that most of the people complaining about the income increase for the 2% of families making $250,000 aren’t even making that much.  Maybe they also don’t know that the increase would only be a portion of the tax cuts they previously recieved.  Essentially, it’s not even a tax increase, it’s just a smaller cut.

It also blows the whole “socialist” theory out of the water when you read that he actually wants to eliminate captital gains taxes for small businesses.

With only 3 days left until the election, I’m sure this won’t change that many minds but I just had to put some common sense out there.  And maybe it’s just the political science nerd in me but it’s been getting on my nerves and I have to say it:

DEMOCRACY IS A POLITICAL SYSTEM AND SOCIALISM IS AN ECONOMIC SYSTEM.  WHEN YOU COMPARE ONE TO THE OTHER, YOU’RE COMPARING APPLES TO ORANGES.  EITHER COMPARE SOCIALISM TO CAPITALISM OR DEMOCRACY TO AUTHORITARIANISM (SP?).
